Quantum WiFi

In my earlier blog “Mechatronics, even smaller, even faster” I hinted at the development of a light-based microprocessor and memory chip. Both indispensable building blocks for an ultra fast and ultra compact computer. But there is another development going on, coming from Quantum Mechanics viz. Quantum Etanglement or Quantum Entanglement. For enthusiasts, read this article from www.businessinsider.com and this article on www.nature.com from the scientific journal Nature.
Exactly how it works is not yet clear, but it has already been shown to work. Basically, 2 quantum particles (photons or electrons), are connected in some unknown way. When the state (for example, rotation) of one particle changes, the state of the other particle automatically and immediately changes with it. Regardless of distance. This happens infinitely fast. So also faster than light. For an explanation, several videos can be found on Youtube. The video Quantum Universe and Entanglement Science Documentary gives a somewhat more popular explanation. The video Quantum Entanglement and the Great Bohr-Einstein Debate from PBS Digital Studios is a bit more scientific in nature.
If you allow this complex matter to sink in and translate it into an application in ICT, the possibilities are fantastic. And this is in the case of wireless data transfer. The state of a particle can assume 2 different stages. Binary described with a 1 and a 0. This is the basis for all information processing. In other words, with Quantum Etanglement we are dealing with infinitely fast wireless data transfer. Quantum WiFi you could say and still one that is infinitely fast and not limited by distance.
This phenomenon endorses all the more my earlier conclusion that technology, read mechatronics, is going to affect our lives even more than it already did.
